This well-known Christmas carol has been very popular. Carol versions have been created by no other than Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Early renditions were sung antiphonally, each line being sung by four different choirs round the gallery.
The carol takes us to the birth of Christ in the manger. Although the shepherds, wise men, Mary and Joseph were there at Christ’s birth and we were not, yet we can pay homage like them today and praise the one who brings salvation.
